                          Experienced.  Tenacious.  Funny.  These are all words that describe Susan Tolle, President and Founder of LeadingFirst Consulting.  She knows not only human resources as a function; she knows how to run a business as well.  Her executive positions, most recently as Senior Vice President of Talent, demanded just that. 

Susan’s career of four decades in HR spans a wide spectrum of industries:  B2B, technology, telecommunications, architecture and engineering, manufacturing, consumer, distribution and retail.  She has had national, multi-state, and local responsibilities in both union and non-union environments, and non-profit exposure, as well.  Working at a corporate level or in a field position, her experience includes periods of explosive growth, reductions in force, closures, reinventions, mergers and acquisitions, and start-ups.

 

She has been fortunate to be a part of leading companies such as Apple, Abbott Laboratories, Rockwell International, Federated Department Stores, Little and Associates Architects, FairPoint Communications, and Engage2Excel (formerly TharpeRobbins).  Throughout her career, Susan has managed all pieces of the HR puzzle, but she has always been most keen on Learning and Organizational Development.  She has an uncanny knack of mastering the connection between the organization’s business goals with performance expectations of its human capital,  then designing and delivering programs and processes, interactive seminars, or workshops peppered with humor to meet the need head on.  Whether it is a college lecture, a speaking engagement to an audience of hundreds, or a simple lunchtime learning session of just a couple of hours, Susan’s practical but entertaining approach to workforce learning is a proven success to managers and associates alike.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Susan received her Bachelor’s degree in Education and her Masters of Arts in Teaching with a focus on Political Science.  In addition, she is a certified trainer in Extended DISC. She and her husband live in Statesville, North Carolina.  Susan is committed to a number of Boards, including positions on the Iredell Health Systems Board of Directors, United Way of Iredell County Board of Directors (past), Iredell Museums Board of Directors (past), and the Silas Alexander Sharpe Foundation Board of Directors.  She is also involved with Habitat for Humanity, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Hospice of Iredell County -  Rainbow Kidz, Friends of Fort Dobbs, and March of Dimes.  She is a member of the Statesville Chamber of Commerce, the Society of Human Resource Management, The Employers Association, the American Society for Training and Development, and the National Association of Professional Women. 

LeadingFirst focuses on the common sense approach to managing and leading talent of all generations in an ever-and-always-changing business environment.  Susan’s work is often the springboard for organizations in developing their strategies of employee engagement, core values, culture enhancements, performance and recognition systems, onboarding, and brand identifications.
